Common questions
What exactly is included in a backup?
Your current deck, any tracked or completed tracker games, saved deck audits and case files, recommendation drafts, pod credentials, and your tool preferences. Large rebuildable card lookups, such as the cached commander index or collection pages, are left out on purpose because they download again automatically and would only bloat the file.
Does this create an account or sync automatically?
No. Deckcipher has no accounts yet, and backups do not sync on their own. Each export is a snapshot at the moment you download it. If you make more changes on the first device later, export again to capture them.
What happens to my current data when I import?
By default an import merges the backup into whatever is already saved here, so nothing is removed. If you turn on the replace option, Deckcipher first clears the saved data in this browser and then restores the backup, which is useful when you want an exact copy of another device.
Is any of this sent to Deckcipher?
No. Both export and import happen inside your browser. The backup file is created locally and only you receive it, and importing reads the file locally as well. Nothing about your decks or games leaves your device through this page.
How often should I back up?
Because the data lives only in this browser, clearing site data, switching browsers, or using a new device would otherwise lose it. Exporting after a big session, or before clearing your browser or moving devices, is the safest habit.
